Michael Bishop

Dr. Bishop received his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1971. He has been active in emergency medicine at all levels since that time. He was one of the first ABEM-certified emergency physicians and later served on the ABEM Board of Directors, becoming President in 1993-94. He is a Fellow Emeritus of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and also served on the ACEP Board of Directors from 1995 to 2001. Dr. Bishop still serves on the ACEP Reimbursement Committee as a Councilor and as an alternate delegate to the AMA. He also serves on the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee. Currently, he is President/CEO of Dynamic Medical Practice Services/ Immediate Care Centers both part of the Franciscan Alliance. He is also the Manager of Kentuckiana Emergency Physicians, a group that staffs hospital EDs in the greater Louisville, KY, area. He has started an offshore captive in Grand Cayman (Professional Liability Underwriting Services, SPC, Ltd.) and a risk retention group in Arizona (Medical Insurance Underwriters, RRG, Inc.). In 2011, both of those companies were rolled into EMPAC, and Dr. Bishop now serves on the Board and as the Chairman of EMPAC. He is a Hoosier and lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
